£2m expansion creating jobs as company rises from ashes
|
| Fire door firm is on way back from blaze |
| A Sandwell firm which deals in fire doors has risen like phoenix from the ashes after being virtually destroyed in blaze - with a £2 million expansion plan creating new jobs. |
| Midland Building Products was left in ruins after fire ripped through the Spartan Industrial Centre complex in Great Bridge last year. It completely gutted workshops and offices at the site in Brickhouse Lane, forcing bosses to work from neighboring and borrowed outlets to keep
going. The firm has now launched a £2 million rebuilding program. |
| It will have new offices, warehouse and a manufacturing plant on the same site to make its own fire doors. |
| Ken Crane, part owner and sales director at the firm, said: "This is a major expansion plan. We had a really bad fire, but we have carried on and we are now in a position to build new premises. The fire was a set back |
|
 |
| but we will have a bigger and better business by the end of the year." |
| Damage |
| The firm was set up in 1991 and also has premises in Small Heath in Birmingham. |
| It distributes fire doors all across the country.
But fire ripped through the warehouse in October last year which caused damage totalling hundreds of thousands.
The fire destroyed a warehouse and badly damaged a new unit being built on the site. |
| That is now being rebuilt and a new manufacturing complex is being planned next to it. |
| The firm employs 50 people, along with subsidiary Millennium Doors, which will also be moving on to the site. |
| Building work on the warehouse is expected to be completed by April, when work will start on the manufacturing plant. |

Another ashes victory as firm rebuilds
|
A WEST Bromwich business which was almost completely destroyed by fire last year is fighting back with a £2 million expansion plan.
|
| Ironically, the company distributes fire doors. |
| Midland Building Products was left in ruins after fire ripped through the Spartan Industrial Centre complex. The blaze gutted workshops and offices at the site in Brickhouse Lane, forcing bosses to work from neighbouring and borrowed premises to keep the business going. But the firm has now launched a £2 million rebuilding program with new offices, a warehouse and a manufacturing plant on the same site to make its own fire doors. |
Ken Crane, part owner and sales director at the firm, said: "This is a major expansion plan.
"We had a really bad fire, but we have carried on and we are now in a position to build new premises.”
"The fire was a set back but we will have a bigger and better business by the end of the year." |

The firm was set up in 1991 and also has premises in Small Heath in Birmingham. |
| More than 20 fire crews from across the West Midlands were called to tackle the blaze which forced police to seal off a number of roads around the complex. The fire destroyed a warehouse and badly damaged a new unit being built on the site. That building is now being rebuilt and a new manufacturing complex is planned next to it. |
| The firm employs around 50 people with subsidiary Millennium Doors which will also be moving onto the new site. |
The plans will create around ten jobs. Building work on the warehouse is expected to be completed by April, when work will start on the manufacturing plant. The whole project should be completed before the end of the year |
